Foley Boys Soccer hosted St. Michaels in County Cup action Friday night. This was the final game in County Cup pool play with the Lions having a 2-0 record with wins over Spanish Fort and Fairhope. The Foley boys jumped out to a 1-0 lead off a huge punt by Forrest Taylor finds Jason Lopez out running the defense and putting the goal by the Cardinals keeper. Not long after that Jason Lopez was on another run as he was fouled inside the box giving the Lions a penalty kick. Zach Burgeouis nailed the penalty kick past the keeper giving the Lions soccer team a 2-0 lead at halftime. As the second half started the Lions team found their groove and stayed on the Cardinals end of the field. Getting frustrated with the constant pressure the Cardinal defenders committed another foul in the box giving the Lions another penalty kick. Edlen Meza took this kick and scored in the left side of the goal giving the Lions a 3-0 lead. A few minutes later Javier Reyes took the ball from a Cardinal player and dribbled past 3 defenders and finding the back of the net for the 4-0 lead. The Lions heavily subbed in for the final 24 minutes of the game giving everybody as much playing time as possible with the news coming that season was about to be cut short. Shortly after this the Cardinals found a run and scored to make it 4-1. As this group of Lions found their connection to each other Nathan Catlin drove the baseline sending a cross in front of the goal that found Efrain Diasdado for the final score and the 5-1 win. This win pushes the Foley Boys Soccer team to a 3-0 County Cup record and an overall record of 7-4 while being ranked 14th in the state coaches poll.
